“Phew!” I sighed as I landed on the bed.

I just got back from church. It’s around 6 pm. I’ve been busy doing different things in church since the service ended in the afternoon.

I don’t know why it has to be me o. I’m not the sisters’ rep na.

As I landed on the bed, after I’ve done my usual ritual of praying, I turned around to see if Ronke was in
the room. She was sleeping peacefully on her bed. She called me when she was leaving church after she left Bro Bayo. Speaking of Bro Bayo, he said he wants to talk to me and he sounded pretty serious. What’s wrong?

Right now, all I want to do is to talk to Bro Tobi. Just to find out if he’s okay and needs help. So, I pick up my phone, tried to dial his number that I had copied from the paper it was initially on. But, I changed my mind. I can’t call him. That would be too desperate and would send a wrong message. Let me text him.

“Hi. Good evening Bro. Tobi. How’s the family? I heard about your loss so I just said I should say hi. Actually, you need to explain the gift. The Lord will strengthen you. I find them cute though. If only I’m not engaged.”

“Blood of Jesus!” I shouted so loud it woke Ronke up. What kind of thoughts are these? I need to do
something.

“Stop shouting na,  I’m sleeping.” Ronke said drowsily when she realized I was the one in the room.

I waved my hands in a bid to apologize for shouting.

I’ve sent my message to Bro Tobi. I hope he doesn’t take it the wrong way sha.

Beep.

A message came in from Bro Tobi and two from Bro Bayo.

Wo! I’ll reply him later. Bro Tobi’s own is really important.

So, I opened the text.

“Hello beautiful, did you see the package?”

He totally ignored my messages of showing concern for his loss. Na wa o.

“Yes, I did. It was really nice. Thank you”, I found myself saying. My God! I should really tell him I
don’t want it. “But you know you didn’t have to buy it right?”

“I knew you’d say that. I just wanted to help Bro Bayo spoil you. You’re priceless o. You deserve the
world.”

“Awww…”

By this time Ronke has woken up and she was coming right to me after stretching a little.

Immediately, I pressed the power button and looked up at her.

“Ah ahn! I’m not coming to see what you’re doing na.  Hmm… I’m sure he’s bro Bayo. I’ve told him
that I know all he’s doing o. He should continue spoiling you. God will provide my own.” She whined.

“Na you sabi”, I ignored.

Then, it dawned on me. “What did you tell him?!” I said almost shouting.

Ronke who had started walking towards the door turned abruptly. Apparently, she was shocked at
the way I screamed.

“Ah ahn! Why did you na shout? You scared me.”

“Just tell me what you told him!” This time I shouted.

“I just told him I saw the gift he sent during the weekend.” She shrugged innocently.

Jesus! Is that why he has been texting me since.

Immediately, I picked up my phone to open the texts I had ignored. He’s called me twice while I was
texting Bro Tobi and I cut the call.

“Sis Lizzy, Ronke said you received a gift from me through Bro Tobi. Is that true?”

“Hellloooo”

“Sis Lizzy, I can see you’re online, please respond.”

“Anyway, I didn’t send whatever gift he gave you. He lied.”

Four WhatsApp messages from Bro Bayo and these are his words. I don’t know where to start.

“Good evening, Bro Bayo.”

I can see he’s online so I waited a few minutes to see if he would respond.

“Good evening, Sis Lizzy. I’ve been trying to talk to you but clearly, you didn’t want to reply to my text.

So, I texted Sis Ronke and to ask what you were doing and she said you were texting.

Who were you texting? Bro Tobi? I know he brought you a gift on Thursday saying it’s from me. I don’t know if
you know yet but it’s not.”

“Don’t listen to that brother o, he is just a vessel of the devil to separate us.”

“Bro Bayo, I’ve heard you. I’ll return the gift to him.” I said with more of an irritation than remorse as I
put off my data.

It’s Monday, I have thought about what Bro Bayo said and I really need to do the right thing by returning gift. I planned on going to Bro Tobi house before going for the evening service.

Let me just use the opportunity to wish him well. After all, his mum just died. I’m not going to stay there for a long time sha.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

I can hear some voices inside. Then, I could feel someone opening the door from inside.

“Sis Lizzy!!!”

“Bro Bayo!!!” I stood at the door, just as shocked as he is.
