THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING FIT

fit

Do you desire long life? Do you desire to live with the benefit of sound health? Is it an earnest desire of your heart to be fit? If your answers are in the positive, then you’re duty bound to keep yourself fit by regular exercise of the body.

To the best of my knowledge, many people desire to have good body structure, and that perfect body shape, and that is why you see myriads of people registering with gym and sports centres. Those who cannot afford the luxury of such places make do of the regular jogging, push-ups, and what have you.

Without a doubt, I dare say that exercise is a good tonic for a healthy and fit body. It is germane to life, as it affords the opportunity of doing away with a sedentary lifestyle.

At this juncture, I throw this poser to you:

What if you fall ill or die before you really die?

Does that sound logical or possible at all? Well, humanly speaking, it defies logic, but in a spiritual parlance it is in every form possible, hence the bible makes us understand that he that lives in pleasure is dead while she lives. ( 1 Timothy 5:6).

Now, do you desire that vibrant, fit and well-built spirit man? Do you desire to flourish and bask in daily freshness and vitality? I’m sure you do. Then, the onus lies on you to attain that spiritual fitness you want.

The spiritual death of a man begins when he neglects his daily exercise. And by this, I do not mean the training of the physical muscles and joints, rather, it is the spiritual exercise of daily study, and meditation on the Word as well as constant prayers. (Pray without ceasing, 1 Thessalonians 5: 17).

As we desire to have fit physical body structure, and well-built bodies, we should equally desire to have a well-built, strong and fit spiritual man.

In addition to physical exercise, people also follow a strict diet so as to remain in shape. As Christians, we also have to keep up with the diet of our Dietician in order to be in the best spiritual state.

God, being our Dietician has given us an exclusive meal we are to feed on which is contained in His word, hence, there is no need to feed on junks if we truly desire to be fit.

Constant feeding on God’s word and praying daily is what keeps a believer fit in this world of misfit.

A songwriter succinctly puts it “read your Bible, pray every day if you want to grow.”

The growth of every believer is hinged on the study of God’s word, which invariably makes us fit. The mistake many people make is not following the directives of the Dietician, thereby nibbling on junk that would eventually drain them of any strength they’ve ever gotten.

bodily exercise profits little, but godliness is profitable unto all things.

To wrap up, Paul, to Son Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:8: “bodily exercise profits little, but godliness is profitable unto all things.”

Physical exercise is good, but in all your exercise, ensure your spirit man is not weak.
