I recently listened to a message by Pastor Stephanie Ike, where she shared from Matthew 5:37:
“But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”
She spoke about times when personal challenges, like illness, tried to keep her from fulfilling an assignment she had already committed to. However, through prayer, seeking God’s strength, and a decision to show up, she not only made it but was well enough to deliver powerfully.
This reminded me of something crucial: when God gives us an assignment, circumstances—and even the enemy—may try to shake our commitment. In those moments, our first instinct shouldn’t be to back out. Instead, we should pause, check in with God, and trust that grace and strength are available to complete what we started.
But beyond this, integrity matters. As believers and professionals, our words should hold weight. Self-accountability matters. Commitment matters. If we say yes, we should mean it. If we agree to something, we should honor it, even when it gets tough. And when we cant meet up, we should communicate appropriately.
How do you show up when you don’t feel like it? Because, trust me, those days will come. The excitement of a new project may fade in the middle. The vision may not always feel as thrilling as it did at the start. But feelings are unreliable guides. Let the vision—not your emotions—lead you.
So, whether it’s in your faith, work, or personal goals, keep showing up. Keep pushing forward. Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes.’
How do you stay committed even when the excitement wears off? Would love to hear your thoughts!
