MY FUTURE – A Poem

My Future

Last night, momma said,
“My son, you must read.
You should be the head,
Don’t you want to be?

We don’t have much, aye,
We try to provide-
Your father and I
But things are hard

Now there are no tables,
No reading lamps or torches
Just this lantern, light feeble
And only a few matches

But you’re going to lead
High up there, at the top
I see it already
And there’s no stop.”

So I read in the dim light.
I do not understand it yet
But my future is bright

So I will keep at it
Again and again
Till my path is brightly lit.
Despite the pain,
I will keep at it.
