Books To Read

Happy new month lovelies, how have you been? Welcome to the penultimate month of the year.

One of my biggest hobbies apart is reading. Over time, I’ve realised that I prefer reading fiction novels to non-fiction novels (hey, don’t roll your eyes at me), I read non-fiction too though.

In January, I read five of Francine Rivers novels( more like re-read); recently though, due to work and all, I haven’t been able to read as much as I would love to.

In a bloggers’ support group I belong to on WhatsApp, some of the folks recently shared some really great books and I decided to pick up my reading from the last time I stopped.

The book I first read (well, apart from a few fictional novels *winks*) was Rebirth, an autobiography by Juliana Olayode, I promise to do a review soon.

I’m on the second non-fiction, The Alchemist, kinda fiction though, but loaded with lessons.

I was supposed to read Smart Money Woman by Arese Ugwu next, but Steve Harris recommended The Alchemist during a mentorship session, so, The Alchemist it is.

Enough of my personal reading stories, let’s get down to business.

It’s just 2 months to the end of 2017, but you can still add 5 books to your reading goals. Readers are the leaders, they say.

Here you go, 5 Books You Should Read Before The End Of 2017, in no particular order:

1. Who Moved My Cheese by Dr Spencer Johnson: I read “who moved my cheese” in 2015, it is a short book that is aimed at changing your way of thinking. It was recommended by a company I was doing a graduate internship at; it talks about dealing with change in your life and at work.

The good part about the book was that it was an e-book and very short, 39 pages, methinks.

2. The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman: I bought this book last year, and at first skim, I knew I made a wise investment.

If you are in a relationship or looking to be in one, then this book is a must have and a must read.

I plan to buy The 5 Languages of Apology by the same author soon.

3. Rebirth by Juliana Olayode: I read this book (e-book) in one night, about 4 hours actually. Rebirth is the life story of Juliana Olayode, popularly known as Toyo Baby from the movie series – Jenifa’s Diary; it is a story of grace, a story of how she survived despite child abuse and hardships.

This also is a must read, and it is not too long just 150 pages.

4. The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren: When I was in the university, there was a particular brother in my fellowship that was always talking about The Purpose Driven Life, always telling me (not just me) to buy the book.

Well, I didn’t buy it until last year, the same time I bought “The 5 Love Languages“, “The Vow“, and “The Art Of Public Speaking“.

An investment in good books is always a good investment.

The Purpose Driven Life was and is still one of the best books I’ve read in terms of challenging me to action, another book that falls into this category is “A Woman After God’s Own Heart by Elizabeth George”.

The Purpose Driven Life is broken into 40 chapters that you read one day at a time, so yeah, you can still read this book completely before the year runs out.

5. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho: Like I mentioned earlier, this book was recommended by Steve Harris at a mentorship session with Bankole Williams I attended recently, and even though I’m just a few pages into the books, I can feel the wisdom oozing from the story of the shepherd boy. I have this book as an e-book and it is just 94 pages, very short, I know.

Short length books make for an easy read, especially for folks that do not like to read much. I am an avid reader and I prefer books with long storylines, but eh, in times when there is “not enough time”, short length books come in handy.

So are you going to challenge yourself to read at least 5 more books before the year runs out?

Have you read any of these books yet? Which of them are you going to start with?

How about those goals you set at the beginning of the year? How close are you to achieving them all?

As the new month begins today, plan to find time to do a year audit; where you were as at January 1, 2017, and where you are now in November 2017.

Hey, don’t give up on yourself, get charged and challenged to do something you’ll be proud of before the end of the year.

Till I come your way again, stay positive and don’t forget to be awesome.
