8 Simple Steps to Personal Branding In The Social Media Age

Personal Branding

Personal branding is the practice of people marketing themselves and their careers as brands; it is essentially the ongoing process of establishing a prescribed image or impression in the mind of others about an individual, group, or organization.

Personal branding can be defined as you controlling the narrative of who you are.

In this age we are in, social media is very key and we can’t keep ignoring it.
Social media can either make or mar you, depending on how you use it.

Today, you can’t just tell people who you are. If you want to get ahead, everything about your online presence needs to provide proof of your character. You can no longer be complacent about your personal brand.

Building your personal brand on social media takes some work, but it could land you your next job opportunity or help you to foster valuable connections.

Below are 8 Simple Steps to Personal Branding In The Social Media Age:

1. Use social media wisely and profitably.

2. Use clear and professional pictures as your profile picture. If possible use the same picture across your several social media handles (not compulsory though).

3. Your bio is like your CV, write it professionally and make it catchy. It should tell us a concise summary of who you are and what you do.

4. Connect with the right people, especially if you have a business page. Nevertheless, there is so much possibility if you have the right people in your social media network.

5. Start using LinkedIn. This is more particular to professionals and career people, not only can you join several groups, you can also get to know about several job offers and you can get recommendation too.

6. Stop posting/reposting anyhow. When you check some people’s social media handles, you are not sure of who they are, because they just post and repost anything.

7. Use hashtags well. Hashtags are very helpful, learn to use it well.

8. Stop projecting a wrong/conflicting image. If you’ve described who you are and what you do in your bio, then your posts should reflect that, stop pushing different info on your social media handles, let it project who you are and what you do well.
