2020: The Year of Stretch

Hi Friend, thank you for stopping by to visit my blog. I couldn’t write to you as much this year though I shared more podcast episodes, you can listen to them via this link.

I thought to share with you about my 2020, and maybe encourage, inspire or give you some hope. By God’s grace, I’ll write more to you in 2021.

2020 was that year that tested me on many levels, stretched me so wide that my deep had to call unto deep.

Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me. Psalm 42:7 NIV

It is said that if you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. This year, there were many situations that tested how small my strength was, I’m only thankful that I could run to Abba in such moments.

What are you thankful for in 2020? Share on X

This year tested me spiritually: I know there are spiritual battles, however, this year pushed to me to deeper depths in Christ as different battles were waged. This year was the first time that I was disciplined in church (not going to elaborate much on this), yet this year was also the year that I had the most intimate walk with God (so far).

This year tested me financially: Suffice to say thank God we don’t look like what we go through, but omo (in a typical Yoruba voice), several issues came up this year to test my financial limits, from attending to some health issues, to experiencing my first major investment loss, but still, this year opened me up to some new investment opportunities.

Random photos that don’t make the gram, a picture of we don’t look like what we’ve been thru (I need to gist you on a later date about this trip)

This year tested me emotionally: Las las, hard girl, hard girl get limit🤭 and so this year brought with it my first breakup😱😭 (first and only in Jesus name, epp me and say Amen👀), yet, this year brought a deeper understanding of what God wants for me relationship-wise.
I know you’ll like gist, but that’s that, okuurrr☹

This year tested me career-wise: As a software developer, who loves the business side of things, this year stretched me so much but brought with it my first transition from software development to a more product-oriented role, it also brought with it the many fears, storms and uncertainty of testing new waters.

Beyond these areas, there were several other wins and lessons (we are told not to call them failures) that the year brought with it, minus the other issues we had to face nationally and globally; and if anything, we have learned this year that being alive in itself is a miracle.

So, if you feel like you didn’t achieve much this year, the fact that you are alive and reading this post is a miracle and I’m here cheering you on (God also is doing same✌).

The many tests and stretch of the year has taught me now more than ever to:
– be more open to embracing change; a stretch in itself is not a bad thing, it can either be leveraged positively or negatively,
– be more intentional about my walk with God and shining my light,
– be more prayerful and sensitive to God’s leading per time,
– value my relationships more and build more value-oriented relationships,
– not settle for less but instead open up to the best God has for me.

It is the last day in 2020 and as I sit on this bed, writing this, I can say fully with my chest that I am blessed. Not because I have everything I need, but because, I have with me the One who can supply all my needs.

The face of a super duper grateful child of God
